This would be one of the few days that James had been perfectly happy in California. He didn't feel that constant aching tug for his old friends, to be with Collin, Richard, Alli, his family. He did miss going to London for the holiday to visit his aunt, but that was easily replaced by being with friends that he met through school... and Timmy. He felt the loneliness of not having his old mates to hang around on holidays, but it stung less when he had his boyfriend. As he was getting ready, James made sure he put on one of his nicer shirts - not a tuxedo by any means, but a nice button up shirt. He just threw on a pair of jeans, and a pair of worn-out grey converse that went to just below his ankles. He put on cologne, simply because when he was young it made him feel bad ass - ... hell. it still did. He then grabbed his school bag - the same green messenger bag he'd had since the seventh grade, and looked around his dorm room. He grabbed a warm hat, a scarf, a blanket, his mp3 player, and a book, then shoved them all into his bag. James walked down to the pier - where he had met Timmy after coming back from England for the summer - and sat down on the sandy ground a little bit outside the festivities. It was already seven, so there were already people there and already loud music playing -he couldn't tell if it was live or not. He still didn't want much part in it. He had a headache. So instead, he pulled out his book, pulled his glasses out of his pocket, and started reading. He was re-reading the Harry Potter books, at least the third time he'd read this one. He was on the second one, and about half into it. A lot of people would think they would get old, but no. He loved those types off books. The binding on this one was breaking a little, and it had dog-ears. James figured a book with dog-ears would usually be good.

The loud buzz of voices, and the flashing lights indicated which direction the party apparently was.
