Her nana had spoken. She was like this, always making sure that Emmalie had something to do or went somewhere rather than being alone. Emmalie understood that though, it was a habit of her to worry about Emmalie rather than not worry at all. All she could give was a small nod and a smile to her. I’ll try Nana. Don’t worry. Go have some fun today and tell Mrs. Ray I said hello for me please. She seemed like a doll. Once her nana had left, it was decided that she would go somewhere and do something with herself rather than be a loner. Emmalie sat up from her bed, heading over to her closet. She found her outfit for the day, heading over to the shower. She walked out of her room and into the bathroom. She turned the water on and unchanged. She let the water then run over her as she got in. Ten minutes later she was out of the shower and going back to her room to change once again. Emmalie changed into her outfit. It was time for her to do her hair and makeup then. Everything was good with her once she was done, she always made sure she looked good. Emmalie had grabbed her phone then, looking through all her contacts for someone. Smiling upon the contact she found, she pushed the ‘send new text message’ button on her phone. She turned her keyboard to the side, finding the letter glow up then. Quickly, Emmalie started typing away. Hey Kiara, im heading over to starbucks today, you want to hang out?? My treat and I can pick you up if that’s what is needed. Text me back dear, EmShe threw her phone onto her bed, heading back over there and going back to reading her magazine. It would pre-occupy her until her phone would buzz back to her with an answer from Kiara possibly. She moved a strand of her hair from her face to behind her ear. Emmalie rolled her eyes at some of the stories and tabloids that were in this magazine she just had bought. Emmalie reached over on her nightstand, grabbing her glasses that she needed. They weren’t prescribed for her to wear every day, just when it was getting hard to focus or cause she didn’t have her contacts on, or it was just her mood really. But it was silent for the remaining time as she waited. Finally, it was Saturday, and Kiara was more than happy to get out of her boring, exhausting five day routine. With all her homework finished the night before, she had the whole weekend to herself. After watching a film on her laptop that Friday, it was past midnight, causing the sophomore to wake up late the next morning, almost in the afternoon. After cleaning herself up, changing her pajamas for something nice to wear, applying her make up and eating a small breakfast, Kiara grabbed her bag, containing her phone, iPod, and money and set out into the town to have something to do for the day. She had made no plans to meet anyone. In the last week she'd met only two nice people, Riley and Emmalie, so she was expecting nothing great to happen.
As she walked absentmindedly down the concrete pavement, she let the sun warm her pale skin, and watched the blue sky hover above her. No rain today, it seemed. People and cars passed her as she walked to nowhere in particular. Occasionally, she would walk into shops for a quick look around, but she never found anything she really wanted to buy. She was surprised about the whole day, she didn't usually go out alone willingly, like this, and she was used to cold days in October, not warm ones. Kiara was happy though, for once, and she couldn't complain about anything. After a while, Kiara sat herself down on a wooden bench, and felt her phone vibrate in her bag, against her leg. She blinked. Someone was texting her? That certainly was a first. She unlocked the device and smiled at the name she saw on the screen. Emmalie. Kiara's good mood shot up even more at the message. Someone wanted to hang out with her!
Using the touchscreen keypad, Kiara typed her message back: "Hey, Em! I'd love to go to starbucks with you. (: I'm in town already, so I'll just walk from where I am, and I'll meet you there. See you soon. x" Shoving her phone back into her small bag, she pushed herself up from her seat, and walked at a normal pace to Starbucks. Even though Kiara had only lived in Bluewater Bay a week, she knew just about where everything was. Starbucks was quite close to where she worked, in Moo Moo Cafe. Why was it called that, anyway? It was quite a strange name for a cafe, really... Though it didn't really matter to Kiara, so she forgot about it straight after thinking it.
Kiara walked down the streets with a smile frozen on her face. It seemed like forever since she'd been asked to go somewhere with someone. Most people would be thinking 'big deal, it's only going out with friends', but to Kiara, it really did mean something. It meant she was making progress, even if it was extremely slow. Upon arriving at Starbucks, it seemed Emmalie wasn't there yet. Kiara sighed lightly and leaned against the wall of the building, somewhat relaxed, her eyes open for the first sight of her friend turning up.

Emmalie spoke, arriving at the spot where Kiara was at. Emmalie gave a small chuckle, then smiled at her. Ready to go in? I think I smell a Frapp being made or a Coffee being brewed. Either way both smell good. Emmalie added seconds later. She went towards the door, letting Kiara, then herself in the coffee shop. Heading over to the counter, the person smiled and asked what they had wanted.. Emmalie looked over the menu, thinking of what she wanted. Uhm, Could I get a Java Chip Frapp with whip cream? What type of drink do you want? She asked, turning head over to Kiara, playing a normal look on her face. She was content and was actually in a good mood today. She waited silently, she wasn’t in no hurry to rush her at all. As she waited, she watched people pass Starbucks absent-mindedly, letting the sun heat her skin as she did. Kiara felt happy, and she was glad, because for once, she had nothing on her mind to drag her down. Her thoughts were crystal clear. No negatives in sight, at least, not for today. It had been a long time since she'd ever felt this way, and she knew it. Dark green irises flicked around the streets, scanning for anyone she knew, but there was no one yet. Kiara guessed she didn't have long to wait any more, after all, Emmalie had a car, she could drive. She didn't have to walk like Kiara, although she did like walking. Especially when it was in her own time, at her own will. She didn't enjoy walking as much when she had to walk from school to the cafe to work as a waitress. On some days, Kiara could be great at her job, other days, she was just too tired to care, which pulled her job performance down. Not a good thing, really. The sophomore always did try to do her best in everything she did.
Kiara hadn't noticed Emmalie pull into the parking lot, and didn't even know she was here until she heard her voice. 'You look comfortable, Hun', is what she said. Kiara laughed a little, pushing herself away from the wall. "It's better than being uncomfortable." She replied with a smile. She couldn't help but notice that for once, she felt like a normal teenage girl who could hang out with a friend on the weekend, not a solitary little girl who locked herself away from everything and everyone, just to avoid getting hurt again. Mentally shaking her head free from that, Kiara nodded to Emmalie, and led her inside, saying a quick 'thanks' to her, for holding the door open. On the inside, she waited a couple of seconds for her friend to catch up, and walked up to the counter with her.
Then she realised, she had no idea what she wanted, she'd probably get a hot chocolate or something, nothing too special. She waited for her friend to order first, and then when it was her turn, Kiara just shrugged and replied with, "I'm not fussed, I'll just have a hot chocolate or something if that's okay. Nothing special." There was a short pause, and the sophomore thought for a second, Emmalie invited her out, right? She should be polite at least. "Hey, do you want me to pay? I don't mind at all." She meant it, even though she now had to work for her money, and got no money given to her from family, she'd saved up quite a bit since she moved here a couple of weeks ago. She also had a bit saved from what Ethal gave her after she passed away, but Kiara wasn't going to spend that any time soon. She would use what she got herself.
While waiting for Emmalie's response, Kiara relaxed herself again, to clear all the negativity from the reminder of Ethal's death, and leaned against the counter. Hoping that soon enough, things would get a lot easier for her.

she spoke, watching as she waited for Kiara to pay. Emmalie stood at the counter, leaning her weight against it lightly, still holding herself up. Once again, she looked around the small place. She bit the side of her lip, and then looked back at Kiara. Hey, im going to find a seat alright? She asked, un-biting her lip and placed a calm look on her face. She stood silent, waiting patiently for an answer. She wasn’t the rush/hurry type. For now, Emmalie just went back to thinking to herself, while waiting for a response. It seemed to take Emmalie a while to reply to her offer, but she did look a little distant, so Kiara decided not to say anything. At least, for a time. She knew what it was like when someone broke through your thoughts when you didn't want them to. She waited a little while, and then noticed her friend roll her eyes. Kiara smirked. She knew exactly why, but it was the least she could do. Even though she didn't seem best pleased, she accepted. Kiara smiled and pulled her purse from her bag, taking out the money required, then waited. As she did, she took a look around. There were quite a few free tables, the place wasn't exactly alive, but it wasn't dead either. That suited Kiara. She didn't like big crowds, but then she didn't like it when it was dead silent either, because she always felt like there was someone listening to your conversation, or worse, watching you.
Hey, im going to find a seat alright? She looked to the side at the sound of Emmalie's voice, and then nodded, "Alright then, I'll get back to you when I've paid." When Kiara was left on her own, waiting, the person behind the counter turned up. She paid before taking their drinks and scanning the room with dark irises for her junior friend. When her eyes fell on their table, a small smile appeared on her lips as she quickly made her way over and placed the drink in front of Emmalie and herself. She wasn't going to drink anything right away, since the drink would scald her mouth, and she hated it when that happened. While she took her seat, she thought. It was weird, some people were used to touching/drinking hot things, but not Kiara. She supposed she was used to the colder stuff, or the neutral things.
Thinking about it, she knew she'd rather hold something freezing cold than burning hot. For a time, she'd be able to hold something cold, but never would she be able to hold something like a hot metal bar. Just the thought made her wince. Remembering she wasn't alone, she looked again at Emmalie, smiling. "So how's your week been?" She asked, striking up a conversation. It was polite to ask how people and their lives were. This week, Kiara's had been pretty hectic. She felt like she could never get a rest. There was her school, homework, her job, the tiredness that never seemed to go away, the plans, and everything. On some days, she had her extra classes so she could get extra help or time to do things in some subjects. Saturdays and Sundays were like a dream to her. Sundays were the best for having time to herself. Saturdays were better to do things with your friends, to make time for them, to hang out with them, and stuff.
That's why Kiara loved holiday breaks, because every day you had time to either do stuff for yourself, alone, or you could just hang out with friends whenever you wanted to. She couldn't wait for the Christmas break. Two weeks off sounded great, and to add to that, there were parties, presents, and families... Her heart sank, realising this was going to be her first Christmas alone. She didn't even have Ethal any more. What presents would she get? None. She felt a lump in her throat, the type you get when you feel like you're going to cry. Not now. She pushed it all away and tried her best to fix her attention on Emmalie, even though she knew this whole lonely Christmas thing was going to be at the back of her mind the whole time. It would be even worse when she'd go back to her dorm tonight. Alone.

Emmalie said with a smile on her face. She brought the drink to her face, her fingers wrapped around the cup as she put the straw to her lips. Emmalie set the cup down then. How has she been? She wasn’t unclear to that response, but she knew what goes on with her life better than everyone else really. She bit her lip, thinking of a way to answer this. Un-biting her lip a second later, she looked across from her. Busy I guess. Dealing with school and my own life, not to even mention the grandparents. They should be worrying more for themselves anyways, but I think life’s okay for me so far. Nothing to major to worry about… just yet anyways. Emmalie spoke, crossing her arms at the table and leaned a bit forward. She looked down at her painted nails before looking back up again. And how have you been? She asked this time, it was always good to ask the question back to the other person. Nothing was never new with her, it was always the same old stuff, just different days. Sometimes it was with her grandparents others it was with her friends. It was in her nature to be somewhat alone, but mostly with others. She is strong-headed, managing sometimes to get what she wants though she doesn’t want it at the same time. That’s how everything was for her. That’s how it was with her growing up. She smiled softly, waiting upon an answer. Emmalie’s hand rose to her face, moving the hair out of her face and behind her ears. It was sometimes a habit to do that, but other times it wasn’t. She set her hand back down on the table, reaching for her drink again and taking a sip once again. Slowly she set it back down again, putting her arm back onto her other arm like they were before. In her mind, she was thinking again, but she had the tendency to do that, but she always heard everything the other person was saying.. It was how she would get stuff done in school and not have anyone realize it. Are you alright? You look like your zoning out about something? Emmalie inquired. She wasn’t meaning to be so… out there with that question, but it just seemed that way to her, maybe she was wrong. "Oh, no, really, I didn't mind paying at all," Kiara smiled back, watching as Emmalie took a little drink of her frappuccino. She dropped her eyes to the table and listened contently to her friend's short description of life was, and then nodded, almost in agreement, but realised this and tried to make it seem general. As Kiara lifted her eyes once again, the question was hers to answer. She contemplated whether to tell the truth, that life was incredibly horrible, and hard, or lie, and say everything was fine, just like hers, with school and the like. When she finally made her decision, she shrugged and replied with, "Eh, similar to yours really, just school, and work and all that jazz. Nothing exciting, but I'll live for now." She smiled a little more to show she was done explaining, and slowly drifted into the deep silence in which she thought about her depressing loneliness.
And really, it did seem to go on forever like that, completely quiet, Kiara thinking and Emmalie doing... Well, Kiara didn't even know what Emmalie was doing right then, because she was so deep in thought. It wasn't until the silence was broken, that Kiara was pulled out of her nightmare-ish daydream. She stared at the junior blankly for a couple of seconds, before catching up with life, and replying to her question with, "Oh, right, yeah, sorry... I was just thinking about Christmas." It wasn't a lie. She really was, but she just wasn't thinking about how great is was gonna be. She didn't have to bring Emmalie down with the goings on of her life, and everything that's happened. That wouldn't be fair at all.
To avoid any questions being asked about as to why she was thinking about Christmas, Kiara asked a question herself before Emmalie had a chance to. "What do you do for Christmas? I know it's the most random thing in the world, but y'know, it's a conversation, right?" She laughed a little, finally managing to shake of her previous dark thoughts that left her with nothing but a dead feeling inside. She would not let the subject kill her mood. She would have some fun hanging out with Emmalie, and she would be happy. Kiara repeated these things in her mind a few times to make it stick, and then smiled internally. She did these things, sometimes they worked, and sometimes they didn't, but they did right then. She always thought mental training was good for you. Really, it was the only thing that kept her strong enough to carry on.
